Admissions

Thank you for your interest in Blue Hill Harbor School. A few facts:

1. We are an approved private school in Maine.

Students who live in communities with school choice for high school can attend BHHS tuition free. The school also accepts applications from tuition-paying applicants. Please contact us for a tuition schedule.

2. We offer a 4-year high school diploma.

Whether you start as a freshman or transfer in the middle of your high school career, you will meet specific criteria in order to graduate. Remote learning and semester abroad opportunities may be available for currently enrolled students. This is determined on an individual basis.

3. You design your own academic program to meet graduation criteria.

At BHHS, each student’s curriculum is different, and adapts as a student progresses through high school. Visit our program overview page to find out more about specific program offerings and how they might pair with your individual goals and interests.

4. All are welcome.

We welcome applicants from all learning backgrounds. BHHS does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, sex, color or disability in the administration of its educational policies, athletic and other school-administered programs.

What does the admission process typically look like?

1. Contact the School.

Complete the Contact Us page on our website. In the message box, let us know you’re interested in our school. Depending on the time of year, we will respond by email within 2-5 days – over school vacations and summer, it can take a little longer. If you prefer response by phone, please let us know and include your phone number in the message box.

2. Complete an application.

Our application will allow you to express who you are and what you’re looking for from your high school experience. You are not required to take any admissions tests when applying to BHHS. When you are ready to begin the process, visit our application page.

3. Let’s talk.

Interviews are an important part of the application process. During this time, you can tell us more about what you would like from your high school experience. We welcome the opportunity to get to know you through our conversation.

4. Come spend the day with us.

This visit is designed to give you a more in-depth look at what it would be like to be a student at the school. During this visit, it is also not uncommon for students and parents to be interviewed by a member of the school’s admissions team so that we can gain a better understanding of a student’s interests, passions, and how they would fit in with the school community. This is also your opportunity to ask the important questions that you will need answered in order to make a decision about your/your child’s education.

5. More paperwork.

As a result of the application process, we may need more paperwork. If so, we’ll make this request in writing and help you acquire any documentation we might need to complete your application portfolio.

6. Acceptance

Once you have completed your application, met with the Head of School, and visited, BHHS’s admissions team will consider your application. This typically happens within two weeks. You will be notified by email and then receive a letter by mail from the Head of School. Admissions decisions are considered final for an academic year.

7. Admissions are on a rolling basis.

Applications for admission will be considered around the year contingent on the current size of the student population and the number of graduating students.
