Academic Life

Advisory

Each student is assigned an advisor who assists with academic support, college/transitional planning, course/project selection, etc.

All-School Meeting

Each week we meet as a school community to share announcements, accomplishments, celebrations, etc.

Community Partnerships & Internships

We encourage students to connect with local communities as a means of increasing educational learning opportunities, enhancing student engagement, and building collaborative partnerships. Blue Hill Harbor School students interface with a variety of local organizations including the Blue Hill Heritage Trust, local farms, historical societies, Weekly Packet, Threadbare Theatre, Blue Hill Chamber of Commerce, local artists, Blue Hill Northern Light Hospital, Blue Hill Garage, etc.

Career & Technical Education/Hancock County Technical Center

Students are encouraged to participate in Career and Technical Educational programs for credit. BHHS students may apply to HCTC programs such as multimedia design, law enforcement, welding, early childhood education, etc. While enrolled at HCTC, they will attend half-days at Blue Hill Harbor School for academic coursework. Transportation is not provided by BHHS.

Projects

Designing projects is a creative and meaningful way for students to meet graduation requirements. The process requires approval from school staff after the student completes a project proposal with the guidance of a project advisor.

Special Education & Guidance Services

We do not offer specialized instruction at our school from a licensed special education teacher.  However, students do seek BHHS programming for its differentiated approach to learning. Our guidance counselor is available for students to speak with in-person during the school day and by phone after school and on weekends.

Early College Courses/AP Classes & Online opportunities

Students may seek other programming opportunities, either online or in-person, including Early College programs through the University of Maine System and Husson College. Advanced Placement (AP4ME) classes are available online through the University of Maine System.
